Great music in Montpellier

The 13th International Guitar Festival has been going at full strength since the start of the month and is due to continue until October 18. There are over 15 main concerts taking place in several of the large halls in the city during the festival, plus many many more in other halls and in the open air. Obviously many of the artists appearing during this festival period are of French origin, but there are also many international artists. These include master guitar virtuoso John Williams from the UK, Mick Taylor from the UK, previously the lead guitarist with the Rolling Stones between 1969 and 1975 appearing on the Stones' album "Sticky Fingers", "Let it Bleed" and "Exile on Main Street, Suzanne Vega, from the U.S., songwriter and performer, who experienced great success in the 80s with "My name is Luka" and "Tom's Diner".

However, Saturday October 24 is a very special event, particularly for my husband David. We're going to Montpellier to see one of the greats of folk music. Giving a free concert on the Esplanade off Peyrou (downtown), is Joan Baez.

From Woodstock to her mythical Christmas concert at Notre Dame in Paris in 1980, to the stage in Hanoi, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, no artist better Symbolizes universalism, peace and the fight against injustice around the world.

And now, Joan Baez will be in Montpellier for a unique free concert beneath the star-filled sky. This will be a wonderful event and we do not intend to miss it.
